The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Aondona Dajoh, has resigned from his position, effective August 24, 2025, citing the decision as being in the best interest of the state.
In his resignation letter, Dajoh expressed gratitude to his colleagues for the opportunity to serve as Speaker and pledged to remain committed to his duties as a legislator and representative of Gboko West State Constituency.
The resignation comes amid growing tensions within the Assembly, following the suspension of four lawmakers accused of attempting to destabilize the Assembly by plotting to impeach Dajoh.
The suspended lawmakers include Alfred Berger, Terna Shimawua, Cyril Ekong, and James Umoru.
Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has denied any involvement in the alleged impeachment plot, maintaining a cordial relationship with the legislature.
