The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced that full reconstruction work has commenced at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

In a travel advisory issued on Friday, FAAN urged passengers to arrive at the airport well ahead of their scheduled departures to avoid delays caused by disruptions from the ongoing project. The authority also advised travellers to follow traffic instructions, park only in designated areas, and ensure that only passengers come to the airport during the reconstruction period due to limited space.
The rehabilitation of MMIA’s Terminal One is part of a broader aviation sector upgrade, following the Federal Executive Council’s approval of over N900bn for projects nationwide on August 1. The Lagos terminal reconstruction, which will cost N712.25bn, involves stripping the facility to its structural base and rebuilding all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, disclosed that the project is expected to be completed within 22 months.
FAAN, in its statement, appealed for the cooperation of passengers and stakeholders, noting that the Lagos airport remains the country’s busiest aviation hub and a critical gateway for domestic and international travel.
