The Nigerian Railway Corporation has announced the resumption of passenger train services on the Abuja-Kaduna corridor, effective October 1, 2025.
The decision follows the successful completion of all required safety, technical, and operational checks after a train derailed on August 26, which was the second incident at the same station within 13 months.
An investigation by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau revealed that defective infrastructure and lapses in safety management by the NRC triggered the derailment.
The NRC has since concluded all necessary checks on the train and has refunded 512 out of 530 contacted passengers.
The corporation has also announced a maintenance schedule, with every Wednesday set aside for maintenance, and has reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe, reliable, and efficient rail transportation.
