Two Kenyan human rights activists, Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo, have gone missing in Uganda after being abducted by armed men while attending opposition leader Bobi Wine’s campaign event.

The activists, associated with the Free Kenya Movement, were taken away mafia-style at a petrol station in Kireka, Kampala, with their phones immediately switched off.

Bobi Wine condemned the abduction, stating the pair was targeted for associating with him and expressing solidarity with his cause.

Vocal Africa, a Kenyan rights group, has also condemned the abductions and demanded their unconditional release.

This incident echoes past cases of activists being targeted across East Africa.

Last year, Njagi was abducted in Kenya and held for over a month. Earlier this year, Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi and Ugandan activist Agather Atuhaire were detained in Tanzania, brutally mistreated, and dumped near their countries’ borders.

These incidents raise concerns about East African governments potentially collaborating to silence dissent.
