The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, on Tuesday administered the oath of office to three newly elected lawmakers following their victories in the August 16, 2025 bye-elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The new members are Omosede Igbinedion (Ovia South/Ovia West/Ovia North-East Federal Constituency, Edo State), Joseph Bagudu (Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency, Kaduna State), and Mukhtar Rabiu (Garki/Babura Federal Constituency, Jigawa State).
Their swearing-in followed bye-elections held to fill five vacant seats in the House after the demise of four lawmakers and the resignation of Dennis Idahosa, who became the running mate to Senator Monday Okpebholo in the 2024 Edo governorship election.

The late lawmakers were Ekene Adams (Kaduna), Isa Dogonyaro (Jigawa), Olaide Akinremi (Oyo), and Oriyomi Onanuga (Ogun).
In the bye-elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) won four out of the five seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured one.
However, two of the newly elected members — Elegbeji Ayola (Sagamu/Ikenne/Remo North Federal Constituency, Ogun State) and Oyekunle Sunday (Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Oyo State) — were absent from Tuesday’s swearing-in ceremony.
Mr. Sunday is the only lawmaker elected on the platform of the PDP.
