Lakurawa terrorists ambushed the convoy of Jafaru Mohammad Ali Damisa, a member of the House of Representatives representing Borgu and Agwara Federal Constituency in Niger State, killing a soldier and injuring several others.
The attack occurred on Tuesday afternoon along the Lumma-Babanna road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, while Damisa was traveling to Babanna town for an official engagement.
The assailants, heavily armed and lying in wait on the road, opened fire between 1 pm and 2 pm, triggering panic among members of the entourage, including security escorts and political supporters. About 11 vehicles in the convoy were vandalized and riddled with bullets, causing extensive damage.
Despite the intensity of the attack, Damisa escaped, following the swift response of his security escorts and reinforcement from troops at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Babanna.
Four supporters of Damisa were hit by stray bullets but fortunately survived.
The injured personnel were immediately evacuated to the General Hospital, New Bussa, for medical attention. The security situation in the area has escalated, with authorities urging residents to remain vigilant.
