A 33-year-old Ivory Coast national, Mouhamadou Dosso, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by a Maltese court for attempting to recruit individuals to carry out jihadist militant attacks in Europe.
Dosso, who also holds an Italian ID card, was arrested in November 2024 and admitted to distributing militant propaganda and trying to recruit people to carry out attacks.
According to Police Inspector Mohammed Shurrab, Dosso used multiple phones to target asylum seekers living alone and fleeing war-torn countries, sending messages like “We are recruiting volunteers to the jihad. If you die in this fight you will go to heaven.” His phones also contained photos and material linked to the Islamic State militant group.
