The Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted and sentenced Professor Cyril Ndifon, the suspended dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), to five years in prison for sexually harassing female students.

Justice James Omotosho, who presided over the case, found Ndifon guilty on two counts out of a four-count charge filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Ndifon’s co-defendant and lawyer, Sunny Anyanwu, was acquitted and discharged by the court, which held that the evidence presented did not prove his involvement in attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The court sentenced Ndifon to two years’ imprisonment on one count and five years on another, with both sentences set to run concurrently.

The ICPC had alleged that while serving as dean, Ndifon solicited explicit photographs from female students under his supervision, an abuse of his office and authority.

This ruling marks a significant step in addressing sexual harassment within Nigerian higher institutions and reinforces accountability for public officials.
