Bandits have abducted 20 farmers, including four pregnant women and several children, from Unguwan-Kawo, Erena Ward of Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State.
The victims were taken from their farm while harvesting rice on Wednesday, November 26, around 4 pm.
According to a resident, the farm is located just about 500 meters from Erena town, where a military camp is situated, raising questions about the security presence in the area.
The abduction comes just days after the kidnapping of over 300 students, pupils, and staff members from St. Mary Secondary and Primary School in Papiri, Agwara LGA, sparking widespread outrage and concern over the escalating insecurity in the region.
The Nigerian Police Force has yet to issue an official statement on the latest abduction, with spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun saying he would verify the report.
The latest incident has heightened fears and anxiety among residents, who are calling for increased security measures to protect communities from bandit attacks.
The region has been plagued by a wave of kidnappings, with many innocent lives lost and communities displaced.
