The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is embroiled in a deepening crisis as rival factions led by Kabiru Turaki and Nyesom Wike issue counter disclaimers, expelling members from each other’s camps.

The Turaki-led national working committee (NWC) expelled 11 politicians, including Wike, citing anti-party activities and misconduct. In response, the Wike-aligned faction expelled 18 politicians, including Turaki, accusing them of similar offenses.

The expelled members include governors, senators, and former government officials. The factions claim their actions are aimed at restoring discipline and integrity to the party.

However, the move has further polarized the PDP, with both sides claiming legitimacy.

The crisis has led to the dissolution of state executive councils in several states, with caretaker committees appointed to oversee fresh congresses.

The PDP has also announced a nationwide membership audit and revalidation exercise ahead of the 2027 elections.
