President Bola Tinubu has been re-elected for another one-year term as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.

This unanimous decision was made by his fellow Heads of Government during the 65th Ordinary Session of the Authority, held at the State House in Abuja on Sunday.

Tinubu’s first term, set to expire on July 9, 2024, will now be extended. In his acceptance speech, he expressed his commitment to continuing his service, stating, “I have accepted to continue to deliver on this service with the great men and women on this democratic journey, to serve our interest and build democratic values on the structure we inherited.”

Sources within the presidency had hinted on Saturday night that Tinubu might be re-elected. One source, speaking anonymously, revealed, “Some people say he should hand over, and others say he should continue. But they will decide tomorrow.”

Tinubu was initially elected as Chairman during the 63rd Ordinary Session of the regional bloc, held last July in Bissau, the capital of Guinea-Bissau.
