The leaders of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda are set to sign a peace deal in Washington, hosted by US President Donald Trump, aimed at ending the long-running conflict in the region.
The deal follows an escalation in fighting in eastern DR Congo between government forces and rebels believed to be backed by Rwanda.
Despite the agreement, analysts are skeptical about lasting peace, citing the lack of a ceasefire and ongoing M23 rebellion.
The US hopes the deal will increase investments in the resource-rich region, with DR Congo boasting an estimated $25 trillion in mineral reserves.
However, DR Congo has made it clear that it will not advance on the deal until Rwandan troops withdraw from eastern DR Congo.
