The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has strongly refuted circulating reports that it has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election, labeling the information as false and misleading.
In a statement on Friday, the commission clarified that it has not issued any such document and operates strictly within the law, citing Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which requires a notice of election to be published no later than 360 days before the polls. INEC assured Nigerians that the official timetable will be released in due course through its established and verified channels and urged the public to disregard the fake reports.
This comes as the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, used his New Year message to reaffirm the commission’s commitment to delivering a transparent and credible election in 2027, highlighting that early steps are already being taken to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral system.
