Billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote has formally petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), urging the agency to investigate and prosecute Farouk Ahmed, the former head of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), for alleged abuse of office and corrupt enrichment.

This move comes shortly after Dangote withdrew a similar petition from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

According to a statement from the Dangote Group, the decision to refile the petition with the EFCC was a strategic choice aimed at accelerating the prosecution process.

The petition, signed by lead counsel Dr. O.J. Onoja, states that evidence will be provided to substantiate the claims of financial misconduct against Ahmed, which include an earlier allegation that he spent $5 million on his children’s education in Switzerland.
