A Kano State High Court has declined the Kano State Government’s request to issue an arrest warrant for former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje over his alleged role in the controversial ownership and management of Dala Inland Dry Port Limited.

Ganduje, who is facing trial alongside three other defendants, including his former aide and lawyer, was granted temporary relief as the court ruled that issuing an arrest warrant would be premature.

The court has instead adjourned the case to February 23 to hear preliminary objections raised by the defence, challenging the service of court processes and the court’s jurisdiction.

The charges against Ganduje and the other defendants stem from allegations of criminal conspiracy, misappropriation of public funds, breach of trust, and conflict of interest related to the Dala Inland Dry Port project.

The prosecution alleges that the defendants diverted over ₦4.49 billion in public funds and transferred 80% of the shares of the dry port company to private hands using a fictitious company.
