Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine, 43, is under house arrest after the country’s presidential election, where incumbent President Yoweri Museveni, 81, is leading with 76.25% of the votes counted.
Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, had emerged as Museveni’s main opponent, styling himself as the “ghetto president” after growing up in Kampala’s slum areas.
The election was marred by technical problems, including malfunctioning biometric machines and undelivered ballot papers.
Wine’s party, the National Unity Platform, claims security officers have surrounded their leader’s residence, effectively placing him and his wife under house arrest.
