The United States authorities have arrested Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, former CEO of Ghana’s Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), and Ken Ofori-Atta, ex-Finance Minister, over alleged financial crimes and immigration irregularities.
Tamakloe-Attionu, who led MASLOC from 2013 to 2016, was arrested on January 6, 2026, and is being held at the Nevada Southern Detention Center.
She was sentenced in absentia to 10 years in jail with hard labour in April 2024 for embezzling GHC 3.19 million ($295,000) and causing financial loss to the state.
Ofori-Atta, who faces 78 corruption-related charges in Ghana, was detained on January 6, 2026, at the Caroline Detention facility in Virginia for overstaying his visitor visa.
Ghana’s Attorney General has confirmed that extradition requests for both individuals are being processed.
