Diezani Alison-Madueke, former Nigerian Minister of Petroleum Resources, allegedly spent over £2 million (around N4 billion) at Harrods, a luxury department store in London, according to British prosecutors.

The prosecution claims the lavish spending was funded by oil executives who secured lucrative contracts with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.

Alison-Madueke, a former President of OPEC, is standing trial at Southwark Crown Court on five counts of accepting bribes and conspiracy to commit bribery.

She’s pleaded not guilty to all charges. Prosecutors allege she received cash, private jet flights, chauffeur-driven cars, and luxury goods from industry figures seeking oil and gas contracts in Nigeria.

The court heard that Alison-Madueke had a personal shopper at Harrods, a service reserved for Black Tier Rewards members who spend over £10,000 annually.

Over £2 million was spent on her behalf using payment cards linked to Nigerian oil magnate Kolawole Aluko and his company, Tenka Limited.
