The Chairman of Akoko-Edo Local Government Council, Hon Alabi Oshionogue, has been impeached by seven out of 10 councillors.
The impeachment letter, signed on January 28, 2026, cited abuse of office, high-handedness, embezzlement of council funds, anti-party activities, financial recklessness, forgery, and disobedience to authorities.
The move follows a failed peace meeting between Oshionogue and the seven councillors at the Edo State House of Assembly.
The councillors, representing wards one, four, six, eight, nine, and ten, declared the seats of three councillors vacant after they attempted to suspend the seven lawmakers.
Vice Chairman Hon Ayodele Fatimbi has been sworn in as the new council boss. Oshionogue denies wrongdoing, citing ongoing projects in all 10 wards and claiming the impeachment is politically motivated.
