A Starsky Aviation pilot’s swift decision-making has been credited with saving the lives of 50 passengers and 5 crew members after the plane suffered a technical fault and crash-landed on the shoreline next to Mogadishu’s international airport.

The Fokker 50 aircraft overshot the runway and came to rest in shallow water, with no serious injuries reported.

According to eyewitnesses, the plane had just taken off from Mogadishu when it reported a problem and requested to return.

The pilot’s quick thinking in directing the plane towards the shoreline likely prevented a more catastrophic outcome.

Rescue efforts were aided by UN and AU troops, who were swiftly deployed to the scene. Somalia’s transport minister was also present, overseeing the response efforts.

The airline has praised the pilot’s calm handling of the situation, stating that his actions were “decisive” in ensuring the safety of everyone on board. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the technical issue.

The incident highlights the importance of pilot training and preparedness in emergency situations. The fact that all 55 people on board survived is a testament to the pilot’s skill and composure under pressure.
