Senator Barinada Mpigi, representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, has passed away at 64 after a brief illness.
He served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, overseeing federal road infrastructure and public works projects.
A consummate politician and influential figure in Rivers State, Mpigi had a legislative career spanning over a decade.
He began in the House of Representatives (2011-2019) and later became Senator (2019-2026), known for his educational support initiatives and constituency empowerment programs.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara expressed shock and sadness, describing Mpigi as a “brother, consummate politician, and leading light in Rivers State”.
