Suspected kidnappers have shot a tomato farmer, Daniel Adesida, and abducted his wife during a late-night attack at their residence along Oda Road in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The incident reportedly occurred around 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday when the assailants stormed the couple’s home in an attempt to kidnap the farmer’s wife.

During the attack, Adesida was shot in the right hand while trying to resist the kidnappers. The gunmen eventually fled the scene with his wife.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, Abayomi Jimoh, said police officers quickly responded after receiving a distress call.

According to him, operatives were immediately deployed to the scene, where they rescued the injured farmer and took him to the police clinic for medical treatment while securing the area.

Jimoh added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, has ordered an intensive manhunt for the suspects.

He said the police have begun intensified patrols, bush-combing operations, and intelligence gathering in the area and surrounding communities to track down the fleeing kidnappers.

The police spokesperson assured residents that efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted woman and bring those responsible for the crime to justice.

He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or individuals to the nearest police station.
