The US State Department has imposed visa restrictions on several senior Rwandan officials for fueling instability in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that these officials are driving violence and undermining stability in the Great Lakes Region by continuing to support the M23 rebel group and violating the Washington Accords.
The US expects all parties to the accords to implement their commitments, including the DRC neutralizing the FDLR armed group and Rwanda withdrawing its troops and military equipment.
The visa restrictions may also apply to certain family members of the affected officials.
