The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who approved the holidays on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.
He urged adherents to uphold the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice imbibed during the holy month.
The minister also called on all Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the nation’s peace, unity, and continued prosperity.
While wishing Muslims a joyful Eid-el-Fitr celebration, he encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend kindness to the less
privileged.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence across the country.
