Nigeria’s food and drug agency, NAFDAC, has addressed public concern over an international recall of Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles, clarifying that the specific product is not registered for sale in Nigeria.

The recall was initiated in France after it was discovered that the product contained undeclared milk and egg allergens, which could pose a serious health risk to individuals with allergies.

In a statement on Sunday, NAFDAC’s Director-General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, reassured the public that locally manufactured Indomie noodles are safe for consumption and are unaffected by this foreign recall.

The agency emphasized that noodles are on the Federal Government’s Import Prohibition List, making it illegal to import them and significantly reducing the chance of the recalled product entering the Nigerian market.

Despite the low risk, NAFDAC is taking no chances. The agency has intensified surveillance at all ports and across all states as a precautionary measure.

Zonal directors have been instructed to monitor markets and immediately mop up the product if it’s found.

NAFDAC is advising consumers to be cautious and report any suspected sale of the foreign recalled product to their nearest office or through their toll-free hotline.
