Governor Seyi Makinde has dismissed speculations about a possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, reaffirming his loyalty to the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor made this known on Monday while addressing PDP stakeholders from all 33 local government areas at the Local Government House Secretariat in Ibadan.

His remarks come days after he, alongside Peter Obi and Seriake Dickson, visited Rabiu Kwankwaso in Kano—a meeting that had sparked speculation about possible political realignments.

Makinde, however, assured party members that the PDP remains strong and will actively participate in the 2027 elections.

“Those saying PDP will die are mistaken. The party will be on the ballot in 2027, and we will produce candidates for all elective positions,” he said.

He called for unity among party members, urging stakeholders to resolve internal differences and adopt consensus-building strategies ahead of the polls.

The governor also announced automatic tickets for members of the National Assembly and first-term members of the Oyo State House of Assembly, while noting that returning lawmakers would be considered based on existing agreements, including rotational arrangements.

Makinde stressed that the party is preparing for a tough electoral contest but remains confident of victory, describing the 2027 elections as crucial to the future of democracy.

He further assured that all aspirants seeking elective positions would contest under the PDP, adding that the party would adopt a consensus-based approach in selecting candidates to strengthen internal cohesion and maintain its dominance in the state.
