The Supreme Court has fixed April 22 to hear two appeals filed by the Kabiru Turaki-led leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party challenging March 9 Court of Appeal judgments.

A five-member panel led by Justice Mohammed Garba granted accelerated hearing on Tuesday, ordering respondents to file their briefs within five days and appellants to file any reply within two days.

The ruling followed motions moved by lawyers Chris Uche, SAN, and Paul Erokoro, SAN, seeking departure from the court’s rules and abridgment of time.

The appeals contest two March 9 decisions that affirmed Federal High Court judgments restraining the PDP from holding its national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, until the party complies with statutory provisions including the Electoral Act and Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, 2022.

The Federal High Court rulings were delivered last year by Justices James Omotosho and Peter Lifu in suits filed by four aggrieved PDP members, including former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido.

Tuesday’s proceedings were witnessed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Kabiru Turaki, former governors Aliyu Babangida of Niger and Sule Lamido of Jigawa, and Taufeek Arapaja.
