The Edo State Police Command has launched an intensive search-and-rescue operation after gunmen attacked a commercial bus along the Lagos–Benin Expressway, killing the driver and abducting passengers.

According to the command, area commanders have been directed to intensify search operations within their jurisdictions, while operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit have been deployed to support the mission. Tactical teams are also working alongside local hunters and vigilante groups to track down the attackers and secure the release of the victims.

The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Iguobazuwa area of the highway. Police said the assailants opened fire on the bus, killing the driver instantly.

A female passenger who sustained gunshot injuries was rescued and taken to hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment and reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities confirmed that at least three other passengers were abducted and taken into a nearby forest by the attackers.

The victims were said to be travelling from Lagos to the eastern part of the country when the ambush took place.

The attack has since sparked outrage online, with many calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue those kidnapped and bring the perpetrators to justice.
