Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has withdrawn from the 2027 Lagos State governorship race under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adediran announced his decision on Thursday while addressing supporters, party leaders, and members of the Lagos4Lagos Movement at Liberty House in Ikeja.
His withdrawal came after President Bola Tinubu publicly endorsed Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat for the governorship.
Explaining the move, Jandor cited recent developments within the party.
“Within hours after I purchased my nomination forms, there were developments, including a meeting involving the President and the Deputy Governor. It was subsequently made known that the President had endorsed Dr. Obafemi Hamzat,” he said.
“Based on my earlier position that I will align with the direction of the President, I have decided to withdraw from the race,” he added.
Adediran urged his supporters to remain calm and respect the party’s internal processes, stressing the importance of unity and discipline within the APC.
He said his withdrawal reflects his commitment to party supremacy and confidence in its internal democratic structure, while reaffirming his loyalty to President Tinubu.
The former aspirant also thanked party leaders in Lagos State for their guidance.
His decision came barely a day after he purchased his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to contest the election.
Hamzat had earlier obtained his nomination form, reportedly with the backing of the Governance Advisory Council, the APC’s apex decision-making body in Lagos.
