Rena Wakama has been inducted into the Hall of Fame of Wake Forest High School as part of its Class of 2026, in recognition of her achievements in basketball as both a player and coach.
The D’Tigress head coach was among five honourees celebrated at the school’s induction ceremony. Reacting to the recognition, Wakama expressed gratitude, describing the honour as a reflection of collective support and faith.

Wakama has enjoyed a rapid rise in coaching, combining her role with Nigeria’s women’s national team with positions at Hive BC and as an assistant coach with the Chicago Sky.
She made history in 2023 as the first female head coach of D’Tigress and led the team to a fifth consecutive AfroBasket title in 2025, guiding Nigeria to a 78–64 victory over Mali in the final.

Her impact extended to the 2024 Olympic Games, where she led Nigeria to a historic quarter-final appearance, the first by any African basketball team, earning her global recognition.

Wakama’s induction highlights her growing influence in international basketball and her role in elevating Nigeria’s profile in the women’s game.
