Fagge said fatigue and excessive speed caused the driver to lose control. Sixteen occupants, including 15 men and the only female passenger, died at the scene.

FRSC officials responded to the distress call and rescued six injured passengers, who were taken to health facilities in Osara and the Specialist Hospital in Lokoja. The bodies of the deceased were deposited at Ankuri Mortuary in Lokoja.

The command urged drivers to avoid speeding and fatigue to prevent avoidable deaths on the highways.
