The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has announced the appointment of American coach David Fizdale as the new head coach of D’Tigers.

According to the federation, Fizdale’s appointment followed the recommendation of the NBBF technical committee as part of efforts to strengthen the national team setup.

The 51-year-old tactician has spent most of his coaching career in the National Basketball Association (NBA), where he has worked with several top franchises.
Fizdale began his coaching journey with the University of San Diego in 1998 before rising through the ranks in American basketball.

The former point guard most recently served as an assistant coach with the Phoenix Suns, a role he left last year.

Beyond leading D’Tigers, the NBBF said Fizdale is also expected to contribute to coaching education, player development, and the overall technical advancement of basketball in Nigeria.

His appointment is seen as part of the federation’s broader plan to improve the standard and competitiveness of Nigerian basketball on the international stage.
