Kenyan marathon star Sabastian Sawe, who recently made history with a sub-two-hour marathon in London, is set to compete at the Berlin Marathon in September, organisers have announced.

The 31-year-old athlete shocked the athletics world in April when he completed the London Marathon in 1 hour 59 minutes 30 seconds, breaking the previous world record while wearing a new model of super shoes.

Sawe will now head to Berlin for the race scheduled for September 27, a course widely regarded as one of the fastest in the world due to its flat terrain and minimal turns, often producing world record performances.

He is the defending champion, having won last year’s edition in a time of 2:02:16 under challenging heat and humidity conditions in the German capital.

Speaking ahead of his return, Sawe expressed excitement about defending his title and hinted at another strong performance following his record-breaking run in London.

“I am very happy to return to the Berlin Marathon this year and to defend my title,” he said.

“After coming off my win in London and sub-2 performance, I will prepare to the best of my ability and see what happens on race day.”

Sawe’s participation sets the stage for another highly anticipated showdown in one of marathon running’s most prestigious events.
