Nigeria missed its OPEC crude oil production quota for the ninth month in a row in April, according to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission.
NUPRC data showed average daily crude output at about 1.4 million barrels per day, roughly 99% of Nigeria’s 1.5 million bpd allocation. Including condensates, total production was about 1.6 million bpd.
The figure is an improvement on March’s 1.55 million bpd, but still below the 1.84 million bpd benchmark set in the 2026 budget and short of the government’s 2 million bpd target aimed at boosting revenue and foreign exchange earnings.
Crude and condensate production peaked at 1.85 million bpd in April, with the lowest point at 1.46 million bpd.
Nigeria’s output has been constrained for years by crude theft, pipeline vandalism, ageing infrastructure and underinvestment. Officials say efforts are ongoing to raise production, but consistent delivery remains a challenge.
