Shehu Yahaya Jalam, permanent secretary for Special Services in the Bauchi State Government, has died in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, while performing the 2026 Hajj.
Jalam passed away in the early hours of Sunday after a brief illness, according to the Bauchi State Government. He held the traditional title of Turakin Dawakin Misau and was part of the state’s Hajj contingent.
In a statement, Mukhtar Gidado, special adviser on media and publicity to Governor Bala Mohammed, said the government received the news with “deep sorrow.” Gidado described Jalam as a dedicated and hardworking public servant who played key roles in coordinating previous Hajj operations and other government assignments.
“His passing is a great loss not only to his family and colleagues but also to the entire Bauchi State Government and the wider community who benefited from his commitment, humility, and sense of duty,” Gidado said.
Funeral prayers were held on Sunday after the Zuhr prayer at the Holy Mosque of the Ka’aba in Makkah. Governor Mohammed condoled with Jalam’s family, the offices of the Secretary to the State Government and Head of Civil Service, and the Misau and Dambam Emirate Councils. He prayed for Allah’s forgiveness for the deceased and for strength for his family.
