Lagos lawmaker Desmond Elliott says he’s facing intimidation and political fallout in Surulere as the APC primaries approach, including the withdrawal of his security detail and the dismissal of loyalists from local government posts.
In a video posted Sunday, the Surulere representative accused unnamed party leaders and local government officials of backing a preferred aspirant months before the May 20, 2026 primary and pressuring members to fall in line. He said those who supported him have faced consequences.
“They’ve been intimidated so much so that a lot of people from the local government have been fired because they follow me,” Elliott said.
He also alleged that his security personnel were pulled without explanation, leaving him exposed. “My security personnel was taken away from me yesterday for reasons best known to them. Now I am left alone to myself. What have I done?”
Elliott further claimed there are plans to bus in outsiders to disrupt the vote. He called on APC leadership to investigate and ensure a free, fair, and peaceful process, saying he would accept the outcome either way.
“By the grace of God, if I, Desmond Olusola Elliott, win, Alhamdulillah. If I lose, I will throw my support behind the winner. But please let it be under a free and fair election,” he said.
The lawmaker urged supporters not to be intimidated and said he expects security to be provided on election day.
