The Labour Party has rescheduled all its 2027 primary elections to May 30, 2026, consolidating dates earlier set for May 27 and May 29.
In a statement on Thursday, National Publicity Secretary Ken Eluma Asogwa said the governorship and State House of Assembly primaries originally fixed for May 27, and the presidential and National Assembly primaries slated for May 29, will now hold simultaneously on May 30.
The party said the adjustment was necessary because the initial dates clashed with two national events. May 27 coincides with the 2026 Eid el-Kabir celebration, while May 29 marks the third anniversary of the inauguration of elected public office holders.
LP said the change was made to allow members, aspirants, supporters, and the public to participate fully in both events. It apologised for any inconvenience caused and asked aspirants and stakeholders for understanding.
