Gunmen have abducted Grace Ogunleye, the Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area in Ekiti State.
Sources said Ogunleye was kidnapped on Wednesday along the Ipere–Iludun Ekiti road while returning from official duties. Her vehicle was later found abandoned by the roadside, and her mobile phone has been switched off.
According to Falade Sunday, Director of Information and Civic Orientation for Ilejemeje LGA, security agencies have been alerted and efforts are ongoing to secure her release. Ekiti State Police Command spokesperson Sunday Abutu said details would be provided later.
Ogunleye had earlier visited the Ilejemeje Local Government secretariat before heading to Ido Ekiti when the incident occurred.
In a separate case, an Ekiti State High Court in Ado Ekiti sentenced Ibrahim Abubakar, 44, and Abdullahi Abubakar, 41, to 25 years imprisonment each for kidnapping. The pair were convicted for the April 2022 abduction of Omoboade Adesina, after her husband Taiwo Adesina was killed on their farm in March 2022.
