Salihu Mustapha, former APC North-East vice-chairman, has withdrawn from the Adamawa governorship race and declared support for Ahmed Galadima.

Mustapha announced the decision on Wednesday in a statement issued through his media aide, Ahmed Sajoh. He said the move followed a directive from the party’s national leadership and that he had stepped down for Galadima, former executive secretary of the Petroleum Trust Development Fund.

After the announcement, Mustapha hosted Galadima and members of his campaign team at his Dougire residence. Galadima thanked him for the support and pledged to work with him and other APC leaders ahead of the election.

Mustapha also said he would contest for the Adamawa Central senatorial ticket of the APC. The party had earlier suspended the primary for the district, citing logistical reasons.

In a separate development, APC governorship aspirant Joel Madaki also withdrew from the race and endorsed Abdulrahman Haske.
