The All Progressives Congress has appointed a team of governors and former lawmakers to oversee its 2026 presidential primary election.
In guidelines released by the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, the party said the primary would be conducted through a direct system on May 24, 2026. Registered members across 8,809 wards will vote for their preferred aspirant.
The exercise will be supervised in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory by coordinators and collation officers named by the party leadership.
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara was appointed coordinator and collation officer for Rivers State. His appointment comes days after he withdrew from the APC governorship primary in the state.
Former Senate President Pius Anyim will chair the Presidential Primary Election Committee. Other members include former Senate President Ken Nnamani, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, former deputy governor Grace Titi Laoye-Ponle, former Speaker Yakubu Dogara, and former Kogi State governor Idris Wada. Senator Sanusi Musa was named secretary.
The party also set up a Presidential Primary Election Appeal Committee led by former Senate Leader Ali Ndume. Samuel Pwajok will serve as secretary, with former House Speaker Patricia Etteh as a member.
Several serving governors were appointed as coordinators and collation officers for their states. The list includes Hope Uzodimma, Umo Eno, Douye Diri, Hyacinth Alia, Babagana Zulum, Sheriff Oborevwori, Monday Okpebholo, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Mohammed Umar Bago, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Caleb Mutfwang, Agbu Kefas, Dauda Lawal, and former Osun governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
According to the APC, ward results will be collated at the local government and state levels before final submission to the national committee in Abuja. The party said the procedure follows its earlier document on the conduct of direct and consensus primaries sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission on May 15, 2026.
The document was signed by APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru.
