A nursing student at the College of Nursing Umulogho in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State has been killed in her off-campus apartment, police said.
The victim, identified as Wendy Achumba, was reportedly in her post-basic training after completing midwifery studies. She was found dead in her apartment on Thursday. Achumba hailed from Isiala-Ngwa in Abia State.
The Imo State Police Command confirmed the incident on Friday and said it had started an investigation and manhunt for those responsible.
“The Command is aware of the tragic incident involving the death of a female student of the College of Nursing, Umulogho, whose body was discovered in her private off-campus apartment,” said police spokesperson Henry Okoye.
Okoye said the Divisional Police Officer and operatives visited the scene, recovered the body, and deposited it at the morgue. He added that one suspect had been arrested and was undergoing preliminary questioning.
The command urged students and residents to remain calm, saying efforts were underway to bring those behind the killing to justice.
