The United States Mission in Nigeria has reminded Nigerian travellers to strictly comply with US immigration laws, warning that violations could affect future travel opportunities.

In a statement shared on its official X account on Tuesday, the Mission urged visa applicants and holders to ensure they stay only within the period authorised, maintain valid documentation, and adhere fully to the terms of their visas.

It stressed that compliance with immigration rules was essential not only for legal reasons but also for safeguarding future chances of entry into the United States.

“Staying compliant with U.S. immigration laws isn’t just the right thing to do; it protects your future and keeps opportunities open for Nigerian travellers,” the Mission said.

The statement further advised Nigerians travelling for study, work, or tourism to always respect the conditions attached to their visas, noting that failure to do so could jeopardise their eligibility for future applications.

“Whether you’re studying, working, or visiting the United States, always honour the terms of your visa. Follow the rules. Stay only for as long as you are authorised. Keep your documents updated. Make choices that safeguard your dreams,” it added.

The Mission explained that the advisory is part of ongoing efforts to curb visa overstays and protect the integrity of the US immigration system.

It also noted that adherence to immigration regulations benefits both travellers and strengthens US–Nigeria relations, adding that “when you respect the process, everyone wins.”
