Gunmen suspected to be terrorists kidnapped six Almajiri pupils in Unguwar Gere, a community in Birnin Gwari LGA of Kaduna State, on Wednesday evening.
According to residents, the attackers struck around 6:30 p.m. and intercepted the boys as they walked back from a nearby farm, just before reaching the village.
Community members, with support from soldiers based at Supa Camp in Kuyallo, quickly mobilized and confronted the gunmen. The joint effort pushed the attackers back, but they fled with the six children.
The abducted pupils have been named as Abdul Mali Malam, Al Amin Biyar, Abdurrahman Sama Ila, Jamilu Malam, Usumanu Bilya, and Abdul Ganiyu Samaila.
As of the time of this report, security agencies had not released an official statement. Rescue efforts are still underway.
The incident comes days after another attack in the same LGA. On Monday morning, armed men believed to be “repentant” bandits opened fire on farmers in Layin Danauta village. Reports say several farmers were killed, with about 7 women and 15 men abducted. Many others were injured, and locals spent hours searching the area into the night.
Birnin Gwari continues to experience frequent attacks on farming communities and travelers.
