The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted ₦200 million bail to Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress and publisher, who is facing alleged cybercrime charges.

Delivering the ruling on Tuesday, Justice Mohammed Umar set two conditions for the bail. One surety must be a traditional ruler from Sowore’s community, and the second must own landed property in Abuja. The court also directed the prosecution to verify both sureties before the bail can take effect.

As part of the conditions, Justice Umar ordered Sowore to surrender his international passport to the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court. It will be held there until the trial concludes.

After the ruling, the judge released Sowore to his legal team and adjourned the case to Monday, July 6, 2026, for the defence to open.

This development follows an earlier order this month when Justice Umar remanded Sowore at the Kuje Correctional Centre. That order was pending the hearing of Sowore’s motion seeking a stay of the revocation of his earlier bail and a bench warrant issued against him.

The judge also dismissed Sowore’s application for him to recuse himself from the case over claims of bias.

Sowore, who denies the cybercrime charges, will return to court on July 6 for the commencement of his defence.
