Security forces in Plateau State have arrested another suspect allegedly connected to the attempted attack on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, in Kuru.
The suspect, Paul Kolsen, was picked up around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2026, at Farm Centre. According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, troops from Sector 6 tracked him down while he was receiving treatment for a gunshot wound believed to have been sustained during the assault.
The arrest is the latest in a series of operations following the July 2 attempt on NIPSS, Nigeria’s premier policy and strategic research institution located in Jos South LGA. During that incident, troops clashed with suspected Berom militia members. One attacker was killed in the gun battle and others fled into the rocky terrain nearby.
Authorities say the investigation gained momentum after soldiers recovered a service rifle, registration number CO-3175, during the July 2 operation. Military officials say the weapon was earlier stolen from a soldier killed in an April 11 attack on troops at the Federal College of Land Resources Technology in Vom.
Because of that link, security agencies expanded their probe into possible connections between attacks along the Kuru–Vom corridor and the attempt on NIPSS.
Security sources say Kolsen is now in military custody and is being questioned to determine his role in the institute’s attack and to help identify other members of the group.
Officials added that intelligence-led operations are still ongoing across the area to track down remaining suspects and dismantle the network behind the coordinated attacks.
