Armed bandits attacked Nassarawa Burkullu community near Bakin Gari in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Monday evening, abducting several residents and renewing fears over insecurity in rural areas.
Security analyst Bakatsine reported the raid in a post on Monday night. According to the post, the gunmen stormed the community and took away an unspecified number of people.
“The attack has left the community in fear, with desperate appeals for urgent security intervention as families await news of their loved ones,” Bakatsine said. The analyst also questioned how long rural communities will continue to live under the threat of abduction before lasting security measures are put in place.
As of the time of this report, the exact number of abducted persons had not been confirmed. There was also no official statement from the Zamfara State Government or security agencies. Attempts to reach the Zamfara Police Public Relations Officer, Yazid Abubakar, were unsuccessful.
Bukkuyum LGA has recorded repeated bandit attacks in recent years, with residents frequently targeted in raids and kidnappings.
The incident comes days after similar reports from Kebbi State. Last Wednesday and Thursday, gunmen were said to have invaded farmlands in Wasagu and Dadin Kowa areas of Danko-Wasagu LGA and abducted several farmers. The number of victims and their whereabouts remain unknown.
Residents in both Zamfara and Kebbi say the repeated attacks are disrupting farming activities and deepening anxiety during the farming season. Community members are now calling for stronger and more sustained security operations to protect vulnerable villages.
