First-term governors elected on the All Progressives Congress ticket met on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi for a closed-door strategy session.
The meeting was hosted by Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris at the Government House.
In attendance were 14 governors: Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, Hyacinth Alia of Benue, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, Monday Okpebholo of Edo, Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, Peter Mbah of Enugu, Umar Namadi of Jigawa, Uba Sani of Kaduna, Usman Ododo of Kogi, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto, and Agbu Kefas of Taraba. Other APC-controlled states sent their deputies.
TheCable reports the agenda was not made public. Sources say discussions centered on preparations for the next general election.
The gathering comes two months after the Progressive Governors’ Forum split. In May, a dispute broke out over leadership of the PGF. Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma said he remains the forum’s chairman, while a rival bloc backed Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun and Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The Kebbi meeting is the first major sit-down of APC’s new governors since that rift.
