The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the alleged activities of the disputed Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has declared the appointment letter presented by the council’s self-proclaimed Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, to be fake.
The Chairman of the committee, Yusuf Gagdi, disclosed this on Wednesday during the continuation of the investigative hearing in Abuja.
Gagdi said the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who appeared before the committee for the second time, also confirmed that the documents submitted by Adeyemi were not authentic.
He said the committee had established that both the purported appointment letter and the Act presented to the Head of Service were forged.
“It was established that the so-called letter of appointment was fake, confirmed by different agencies, and the Act presented to the Head of Service was equally fake, forged by the DG; it was established,” Gagdi said.
Walson-Jack appeared before the panel in compliance with its summons to make her final submissions on the matter.
Representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, including Deputy Commissioner of Police Olufemi Akinola and Assistant Commissioner of Police Bashir Abdullahi, were also present at the hearing on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police.
However, Adeyemi was absent from the proceedings.
The committee had earlier directed the Inspector-General of Police to produce Adeyemi within 48 hours, insisting that his appearance was crucial to the investigation.
The lawmakers want Adeyemi to explain how the purported council allegedly secured official recognition and processed government correspondence despite questions surrounding its legal status and establishment.
The investigation into the PFIPC is ongoing.
