The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, has resigned from office.
Sources within the Assembly said the resignation came after a group of lawmakers began moves to impeach him.
His decision was confirmed on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Ivy Ebojele.
According to Ebojele, the Speaker voluntarily stepped down and a full statement outlining the reasons and next steps will be released to the public later.
The development leaves the Edo House of Assembly without a presiding officer, and members are expected to meet soon to elect a new speaker.
