Super Falcons midfielder Deborah Abiodun has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2026 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season after suffering an injury.
Washington Spirit confirmed on Tuesday that the 22-year-old has been placed on the season-ending injury list and will undergo surgery this week.
Abiodun has made nine appearances, including four starts, for the club this season, playing 320 minutes.
The midfielder also featured four times for Nigeria at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where the Super Falcons were eliminated by Cameroon in the quarter-finals.
Her injury adds to a difficult year for Abiodun, who also featured in Nigeria’s 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the Women’s World Cup playoff, which ended the Falcons’ hopes of qualifying for the tournament.
Abiodun joined Washington Spirit in January 2025 and has made 21 appearances for the club. Her absence will be a setback for the Spirit, who are currently second in the NWSL standings with 43 points.
